SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024: Showcasing Urban Innovation and Technology
On May 15 and 16, Tokyo Big Sight hosted SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, an event organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to promote Tokyo as a model sustainable city. The event drew more than 500,000 attendees, including city leaders, startups, venture capitalists and corporations, showcasing innovative solutions for urban challenges.
One of the significant highlights was the Global Startup Program, Asia’s largest innovation conference. The event brought together startups, investors and corporations to foster connections and discuss the creation of future sustainable cities. The Showcase Program highlighted sustainable city models that blend nature and technology, with 47 sessions and more than 150 speakers.
Another key attraction at the event was the SusHi Tech Challenge 2024, a pitch contest that drew 507 companies from 43 countries. The grand prize was awarded to Fermenstation Co., Ltd., recognized for their innovative fermentation technology. Fermenstation’s success underscores the importance of sustainable practices and the potential for innovative solutions to address global challenges. Other notable winners included CancerFree Biotech, Entomal Biotech Sdn Bhd and BUYO Bioplastics Company Limited. These companies were awarded special prizes by various sponsors, highlighting their contributions to sustainable technology and innovation.
The event also emphasized the importance of industry-academia collaboration. A notable partnership between Suzuka University of Medical Science and learningBOX, Inc. showcased how e-learning tools have improved examination performance, reduced dropout rates and increased national exam pass rates.
learningBOX, Inc. showcased its AI-assisted course builder, a tool that exemplifies the integration of artificial intelligence in education. This tool provides real-time feedback, improved decision-making, talent management and workforce upskilling, making it a versatile and cost-effective solution for diverse educational needs. The system’s user-friendly design ensures that it can be easily adopted across different educational platforms, making quality education accessible to a broader audience.
The EventHub platform played a crucial role in facilitating networking and business matching during the event. This platform allowed participants to exchange messages, schedule meetings and share professional profiles, enabling seamless interaction among exhibitors, attendees and other stakeholders. The ease of connecting through EventHub fostered potential collaborations and business opportunities, enhancing the overall impact of the event.

Attendees spoke to the importance of being able to make in-person connections at SusHi Tech Tokyo. “One of our partners is a Japanese company that has a lot of experience and builds innovation in this field. We took the opportunity to come meet them and co-create and build something meaningful together,” said Keylany Hassine, CEO of Istya, a company transforming indoor environments with AI-driven technology for air quality management. Hasine further noted that such collaborations are essential for driving innovation and achieving impactful solutions in air quality management.
