Malvern College Tokyo Hosts Major University Fair
At this time of year, many parents and pupils begin the arduous search for reliable information to help them navigate the tricky path toward university selection, applications and graduation along with a myriad of related challenges related to accommodation, tuition and courses. To help ease their anxiety, 32 places of further education sent representatives armed with all the answers to Malvern College Tokyo for the 2025 British University Fair on Oct 27. I visited the fair to learn what pupils and parents wanted to understand and expect from these places of further education.
Purpose of the Fair: Global and Local Choices
Malvern College Tokyo organized this event to offer pupils and parents key information and face-to-face access to a diverse range of well-known and less famous universities in the UK, Japan and Canada.
A Year 10 student noted the fair eased their anxiety about the future. “I was really scared thinking about the future because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. But the university representatives were really helpful in helping me hone down and find a path I might want to follow.”
Reflecting on the value of the event, Headmaster Ewan McCallum said, “Our university fair was an excellent opportunity for pupils to engage directly with institutions from around the world and to begin shaping a clear, informed sense of what their future might hold. Experiences like this are vital in helping pupils understand the range of pathways open to them and to make confident, well-considered decisions about their next steps.”

Preparing Students for the Future
The fair is a key component of the school’s broader approach to student guidance. Head of Senior Andrew Maguire explained how the school supports students long before they attend such events.
“The university application process begins early and is embedded in our Future Pathways programme in which pupils engage with a broad range of topics outside the academic curriculum. MYP pupils are guided in researching undergraduate courses and careers based on their interests and aptitudes; they receive guidance in making the appropriate subject choices at DP to ensure pathways are achievable; and our subjects fair ensures pupils and parents have a full understanding of the broad range of programmes available in the Diploma Programme. With a very international mix of pupils, our guidance is highly tailored to each individual pupil.”
