Japan Welcomes World Wellness Weekend for Boosting Mental and Physical Health
On 20-22 September, as health fans in about 9,000 venues and 150-plus countries celebrate World Wellness Weekend, Japan will show why it became the fourth Most Active Country in 2023 by rolling out the yoga mats, meditating and much more in some 423 spots nationwide.
Country Ambassadors Tomoko Iwai and Tomoe Kaneko, with Coordinator Kanako Nakai and Ambassador Tomoko Kouduma, who helped Japan claim last year’s honor, aim to reach top spot in 2024.
They have organized wellness classes and related events to take place in 47 prefectures from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa down south, conducted by more than 200 wellness professionals.
The three-day extravaganza of wellness activities aims to encourage and celebrate health and wellness in local communities. There are free spa days for cancer patients, huge fitness parks being established in the community, free wellness retreats, gym classes and more.
Major support has been confirmed from sports and health organizations such as JSHIF, JSWT, JSTA, FIAJ, JAFA and SPORTEC. Their focus areas include general wellness, wellness tourism, sports-related activities, health and wellness communities, the development of fitness professionals in Japan, increasing awareness, and mental and physical health. Additionally, Wellness Tokyo, one of Japan’s largest exhibitions on mental and physical health, is also supporting these efforts.
