Where is the World’s Best Airport Food?

Tokyo’s Haneda was beaten only by Singapore’s Changi in the latest World’s Best Airport Dining Awards, with Rome Fiumicino in 3rd spot and Narita International landing at 5th.

Airport dining has taken off as a standalone category among the “Oscars of Aviation” Skytrax gongs, highlighting the key role food, beverage and related services play in marketing airports.

London-based Skytrax praised Changi, which is investing some $2 billion until 2031 on the improvement of services and facilities. “Work is underway on a fifth terminal to add to the existing four, which will open in the 2030s,” CNN Business reported.

The World’s Best Airport Dining award covers the selection, types and quality of food and beverage outlets (cafes, bars, restaurants, take-outs, etc) including service value for money.

Haneda Airport was also named World’s Best in three Categories at the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards in May: Cleanest Airport for 10th consecutive year; Best Domestic Airport for 13th consecutive year and Best PRM (Person with Reduced Mobility) / Accessible Facilities for 7th consecutive year.

With two Japanese airports placing in the top five for dining, the results reflect the country’s deep-rooted food culture and commitment to hospitality, even in transit environments. Traditional Japanese cuisine, international favorites and artisanal coffee are all available at Haneda and Narita, ensuring travelers enjoy a curated mix of flavors designed to cater to diverse tastes and dietary needs.

Narita’s food scene offers a satisfying mix of classic and elevated Japanese fare spread across its three terminals. In 2023, Narita opened a new Japan Food Hall in Terminal 2 housing ten regional favorites that span sushi, marbled beef cutlets, okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancakes) and other delicious staples designed for travelers seeking a “final taste of Japan” before departure. Haneda Airport meanwhile offers a deeply authentic and varied Japanese dining experience, especially in the recently opened Haneda Airport Garden (connected to Terminal 3), which includes a food court, hotel, spa, hot spring baths and numerous restaurants.

Skytrax says: “The World Airport Awards began in 1999, when Skytrax launched its first global airport customer satisfaction survey. They are regarded as a quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across more than 500 airports. There is no entry fee or any type of payment by an airport (or other third party).”

As air travel continues to rebound and airports compete to offer more than just transit services, categories such as dining, cleanliness and accessibility are becoming essential criteria for global rankings, as well as key selling points for travelers looking for comfort and quality on the go.
