This is Japan’s first large-scale solo exhibition by one of the most influential figures in contemporary multimedia art, Tony Oursler. Held at Tokyo Node, the exhibition presents an immersive experience that examines how technology influences belief, perception and human psychology in an age shaped by surveillance and digital systems.

Spanning works from the 1990s to the present, the exhibition brings together key installations, previously unreleased materials and new site-specific works created especially for this venue. Themes range from pop culture and subculture to science, conspiracy theories, religion and the paranormal, inviting visitors to reflect on the unseen forces that influence modern life. Highlights include major installations shown in Japan for the first time, a large-scale new work developed for Tokyo Node’s soaring gallery space and the world premiere of a long-planned collaborative project involving music and spoken performance.

Designed as a sensory experience rather than a traditional exhibition, the show takes advantage of Tokyo Node’s unique architecture high above the city, reinforcing the exhibition’s focus on perception, illusion and the boundaries between reality and imagination.

Artist

Tony Oursler is a New York–based multimedia artist and a pioneer of video installation and outdoor projection. Active since the 1980s, his work examines the psychological and cultural impact of images, technology and belief systems through immersive installations that combine moving image, sculpture, sound and narrative. His work has been exhibited internationally at leading institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou, and is held in major public collections around the world, including in Japan.
