Population Decline and Immigration Policy: How Can Japan Become a Country To Be Chosen?
Have you ever wanted to be part of one of the big debates of the day with opinion makers and other influential insiders? Here’s a rare webinar where you can listen to experts and express your opinion.
In June, revisions to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act were passed. The foreign technical intern trainee system, which for more than 30 years was one of the ways to hire foreigners as unskilled labor, is being replaced with a new training and employment system. The system aims to train and acquire workers for Japan, with trainees applying for Specific Skilled Worker visas after their training period. The new initiative aims to welcome foreigners to Japan as workers who might stay in the country long term.
This webinar by the Foreign Press Center Japan (FPCJ) will feature leading foreign journalists covering immigration issues, and attendees will have the opportunity to hear from them about the challenges facing Japan, including specific hurdles stemming from South Korea, where the population is declining even faster than in Japan and foreign workers are being brought in due to higher remuneration levels; Vietnam, the country from which the highest number of technical interns come to Japan; and France, one of the earliest countries in Europe to accept immigrants under the concept of immigrant integration. Together with Japanese experts, the foreign journalists will discuss what immigration policy Japan should implement to bring in more foreign workers.
