Tokyo Tower Climb: Move for Mental Health in Japan

Tokyo Tower Climb: Move for Mental Health in Japan

On May 24, TELL Japan will once again lead the charge for mental health and suicide prevention with the Tokyo Tower Climb. Participants will scale 600 steps to raise vital support for counseling services and crisis hotlines across Japan.

This event not only raises awareness, but also brings together a community committed to breaking the stigma around mental health. Whether you’re climbing in memory of a loved one or simply advocating for greater access to mental health resources, every step makes a difference.

Uniting Communities Through Action

People of all ages and backgrounds come together to conquer the 600 steps of Tokyo Tower, ascending its iconic 333-meter height in a powerful show of unity. Each step taken is a symbol of solidarity with those battling mental health challenges, reminding them that they are not alone. From corporate teams and community groups to schools and individuals, participants unite with a common goal: to break the silence, raise awareness and support life-saving mental health services across Japan.

Supporting TELL Japan’s Services

All event proceeds directly support TELL Japan’s life-saving mental health services, including its free and confidential 24/7 Lifeline. Staffed by highly trained volunteers, the Lifeline offers critical support to those in emotional distress, providing a compassionate ear at any hour of the day or night.

In addition to phone-based crisis intervention, TELL offers secure online chat support, professional counseling services and outreach programs designed to educate and empower communities across Japan. Their workshops and training sessions tackle topics such as suicide prevention, workplace mental health and youth well-being, helping to foster a more informed, resilient and empathetic society.

Impact Beyond the Climb

Since 2010, the Tokyo Tower Climb has not only raised essential funds for mental health support, but also sparked nationwide conversations around well-being and resilience. More than just a physical challenge, the event creates a powerful platform for advocacy, where participants share their personal journeys and words of encouragement under the hashtag #MoveForMentalHealth.

These stories help break the silence, reduce stigma and encourage others to seek the support they need. The climb continues to grow as a symbol of solidarity, reminding communities across Japan that mental health matters—and no one has to face it alone.
