Two Tickets: How the Grand Hyatt Giveaway Grew GoConnect’s Newsletter Audience

Most giveaways ask for an email address and provide little value in exchange. The prize is awarded, the entry list is filed away, and the brand is left with a spreadsheet of names that wanted a prize, rather than an audience.

Closing that gap was the objective when Grand Hyatt Tokyo worked with us to promote its Soirée Blanche summer party series. Rather than simply running a contest, we built a giveaway that functioned as a newsletter activation tool, using the prize as the incentive for a subscription. Once done, we then measured whether that audience remained engaged once the excitement of entering had passed. The resulting campaign was the clearest recent example of how our newsletter activation process works from end to end.

Campaign structure: one prize, three channels

The offer was clear and desirable: two tickets to an exclusive all-white summer party on the Grand Hyatt Tokyo terrace in Roppongi Hills with a sumptuous buffet, free-flow Perrier-Jouët Champagne and other beverages, DJ and live music.

To promote it, we:

  • Built a dedicated landing page to host the entry form.
  • Added an official event listing so the party was discoverable independent of the giveaway.
  • Promoted the entry link through a banner in our email newsletter.
  • Ran organic promotion on Instagram to extend reach beyond the existing subscriber base.

Each channel served a distinct purpose: The newsletter activated an audience that already trusted GoConnect. Instagram reached an audience that did not know us well enough yet, and the landing page carried out the actual conversion. Underneath it all, the entry form was actively managed to ensure every submission represented a real, eligible opt-in rather than random traffic.

Designing for the brand, not only the click

A 5-star hotel giveaway shouldn’t resemble a typical online contest, and the creative materials were made with that in mind. For Instagram, the campaign led with “Your VIP Invitation,” pairing bold red typography with editorial photography of guests in white, mid-toast, beneath string-lit trees at dusk. For our website, the same photography ran wider, and the headline shifted to a more direct “Register to Win a Free Pair of Tickets,” suited to a platform where users scroll faster and need the offer stated up front.
Both versions retained the same restrained color palette and treated the GoConnect.jp call to action as a simple note rather than a prominent banner. That was deliberate: The creative needed to read as an invitation worth opening, not an advertisement.

Opt-in as the lead generation mechanism

This is the stage where lead generation actually occurs. Entry required agreement to receive communications from GoConnect, alongside a clear, one-click option to unsubscribe at any time. That explicit consent is what distinguishes an interested party who we can engage from just an entry added to a prize list.

Someone entering to win two tickets to a champagne terrace party in Roppongi Hills gives us several pieces of key data before providing any direct information: that they are based in Tokyo, interested in premium social events, and comfortable engaging with English-language content.

That is a different audience from a generic sweepstakes list, and it is the same audience GoConnect’s hospitality, lifestyle and events partners seek to reach. The giveaway therefore did not only grow the newsletter’s subscriber count; it grew the number of subscribers who match the profile our partners are seeking.

Results across the funnel

The campaign ran from July 13 to August 7, 2026, ahead of the Aug. 15 event date and performance remained consistent at every stage of the funnel. The landing page recorded 1,108 total page views and converted at 7.3%, producing 81 submitted entries, with visitors spending an average of 4 minutes, 5 seconds on the page.

On the distribution side, the newsletter banner generated 59 clicks through to the entry page, and Instagram promotion reached 725 post views, giving the campaign meaningful pull from both an owned audience and a colder one.

Because the landing page also linked to the Grand Hyatt’s own booking page, the giveaway produced a second layer of value: 32 outbound clicks to the event booking page at a 2.9% click-through rate, from visitors who chose not to wait for the giveaway’s outcome to attend.

Why the process works

Each channel provided a benefit:

  • The newsletter supplied warm traffic.
  • Instagram supplied reach.
  • The landing page supplied a premium first impression consistent with a 5-star hotel’s brand.
  • The entry form supplied the mechanism that converted interest into a contact.

Removing any component would have weakened the others: Without the newsletter, there is less warm traffic; without considered creative, the offer resembles any other giveaway; without an explicit opt-in, no qualified list remains once the event has concluded.

This is the model we use whenever a giveaway serves as the campaign vehicle: Build the prize to fit the brand, distribute it across channels that reach both existing and new audiences, and ensure the entry step performs double duty as a genuine, consenting newsletter subscription.

The tickets are only awarded once. But the list built around them continues to deliver value long after the last glass of champagne has been poured.

Organizations interested in turning an event, a prize or a partnership into a qualified lead channel are welcome to partner with GoConnect to build a multichannel campaign that grows both audience and newsletter simultaneously.
