Japan Macro Salon with Jesper Koll and Bill Emmott
Asia Society’s quarterly Japan Macro Salon returns with a focused conversation on Japan’s economic outlook, business environment and global positioning. Economist Jesper Koll and Honorary Vice-Chair of The Japan Society of the UK Bill Emmott lead the discussion.
Each quarter, Koll and Emmott begin by exchanging views on the recent developments and signals that have drawn their attention. The session then turns to a guest-led segment centered on a timely issue, before opening the floor to questions from participants.
For the January 2026 edition, they are joined by Takeshi Niinami, former chair of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, to explore Japan’s role in the global economy and the sustainability challenges facing business and society.
