MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless in Odaiba was a huge success among fans of digital art in Japan and tourists alike. Forest of Resonating Lamps

All the effort that went into developing the digital art museum paid off. The museum became a massive success locally and globally. teamLab Borderless quickly became one of the top spots to visit in Tokyo among locals and tourists. According to research conducted by the museum, 50 percent of its visitors were tourists. This exhibition drew people from all over the world, including celebrities. Kanye West, Swizz Beats, Nas, Megan Thee Stallion, and Kim Kardashian were some of the A-listers who visited the famous museum in Odaiba. The museum also received multiple national and international accolades. In 2018 teamLab Borderless was nominated for the Leading Culture Destinations Award by the United Kingdom. In 2019 it was named one of the World’s Greatest Places by Time magazine. In the same year, it was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most visited single art group museum, bringing in 2,134,778 guests between January 1 and December 31. In 2021 the museum earned a Cool Matching Award from Grand Prix Japan.

The Future of teamLab Borderless in 2023

The teamLab Borderless museum in Odaiba has closed for now, and it will move to central Tokyo in 2023. The museum plans to continue its legacy of unique, innovative, immersive digital art exhibitions. It also aims to be Tokyo’s top tourist destination in 2023. The museum will reopen as part of the Toranomon-Azabudai Project, which aims to be a “modern urban village” in the heart of Tokyo. The vision of the project is to create “a city within a city” that provides comfort, convenience, and enjoyment while bringing people closer together. This new establishment will have various facilities such as hotels, residences, an international school, restaurants, shops, and much more.
