Women, Peace and Security—Why This Is So Critical: A Webinar by Hideko Hadzialic

The United Nations University invites the public to attend “Women, Peace and Security—Why This Is So Critical,” a Big Ideas Dialogue with Hideko Hadzialic.

The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda is complementary to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda. Its main components—women’s role in prevention of conflict, protection of women in conflict, and women’s participation in peacebuilding and recovery—are applicable in both conflict and stable contexts, given that the space in between is a continuum.

Hadzialic will join UNU Senior Vice-Rector Sawako Shirahase to discuss the importance of integrating the WPS Agenda into National Action Plans in both conflict and non-conflict countries with examples of how the UN and UNDP are doing this to accompany their national and community efforts.

Hadzialic began her role as Director of the UNDP Representation Office in Tokyo in June 2023. Prior to that she served as UNDP Resident Representative in Kuwait (2019–2023), UNDP Deputy Country Director in Sudan (2017–2019), and the Management Advisor for the Office of the Bureau Director, the Bureau of Management at UNDP Headquarters (2014–2017). At UNDP, she has also served in the following posts: UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Bhutan; Policy Network Manager for the Millennium Development Goals at the Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP Headquarters; Programme Specialist at UNDP Iraq and Programme Officer at UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hadzialic holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

This webinar will be on July 2 at 6–7pm in English; Japanese interpretation will not be provided. Advance registration by July 1 is required. Registrants will receive an email on the day of the event with a link to attend via Zoom webinar.
